Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about Landshark IT — our services, pricing, response times, and how we work.

How long has Landshark IT been in business?
Landshark IT was founded in St. Petersburg, FL in 2008 — making us one of the longest-running independent IT service providers in Pinellas County. We expanded to downtown Tampa and now serve businesses and residents across all of Tampa Bay.
Are you local or a national chain?
We are 100% local and independently owned. Our owner, a former Navy Cryptologist and NSA-certified security specialist, founded Landshark IT here in St. Petersburg. You get direct access to experienced engineers — not a call center.
What areas do you serve?
We serve all of Tampa Bay — St. Petersburg, Tampa, Clearwater, Largo, Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Seminole, Pinellas Park, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, and surrounding areas in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. Remote support is available nationwide.
Do you work with both homes and businesses?
Yes — we work with residential clients, small businesses, and multi-location enterprises. We're equally comfortable fixing a grandparent's slow laptop and managing the IT infrastructure for a 50-person law firm.
How much does computer repair cost?
Remote support sessions start at $65. In-shop repairs like virus removal start at $89. We always diagnose for free and give you a written quote before starting any work — no surprise bills ever.
Do you fix Macs as well as PCs?
Yes. We service all Mac models — MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro — including the latest Apple Silicon M-series chips. We also support all Windows versions from 7 through 11.
How quickly can you fix my computer?
Remote support can often begin the same hour you call. In-shop repairs typically take 1–3 business days. For urgent business needs, we prioritize accordingly — call us and explain the situation.
Can you fix my computer remotely?
Yes. We connect securely to your computer and fix most software issues remotely — virus removal, slow performance, OS errors, printer problems, and more. You watch everything we do in real time.
What if you can't fix my computer?
We operate a no-fix, no-fee policy on repair work. If we can't resolve the issue, you don't pay for the attempt. We'll also give you an honest assessment of whether repair or replacement is the smarter financial decision.
What does managed IT services include?
Our managed IT plans cover 24/7 monitoring, automated patching, endpoint security, help desk support, backup verification, and strategic IT consulting. Higher tiers add on-site visits, cloud backup, VOIP management, and compliance reporting.
How is managed IT priced?
We charge a flat monthly fee per device — starting at $49/device/month for the Essentials plan. This means your IT budget is predictable every month with no surprise invoices after incidents or support calls.
Do I need to sign a long-term contract?
No long-term contracts are required. We earn your business every month. We're confident enough in our service quality that we don't need to lock you in.
How quickly do you respond to issues?
Essentials plan: business-hours response. Professional plan: 24/7 help desk with on-site visits included. Enterprise plan: priority 1-hour response SLA. Managed clients always get priority over walk-in repair customers.
Can you take over from our current IT provider?
Yes — IT provider transitions are something we do regularly. We have a structured onboarding process that documents your environment, audits what's working and what isn't, and migrates you to our platform with minimal disruption.
Does my small business really need cybersecurity?
Yes — over 43% of cyberattacks target small businesses, and 60% of small businesses close within 6 months of a significant breach. The cost of protection is a fraction of the cost of recovery.
What is ransomware and how do you protect against it?
Ransomware is malicious software that encrypts your files and demands payment. We protect against it through layered defenses: endpoint protection, network monitoring, email filtering, employee awareness training, and most critically — verified, immutable offsite backups.
Do you help with HIPAA or PCI compliance?
Yes. We assist medical offices with HIPAA Security Rule compliance and businesses accepting payment cards with PCI-DSS requirements. We provide documentation, access controls, encryption, and audit logging that satisfy both standards.
What security certifications do your engineers hold?
Our team holds certifications in Cisco networking, Microsoft systems, VMware virtualization, and information security. Our owner is a former Navy Cryptologist and NSA-certified specialist — real-world experience securing classified military systems.
Which cloud platform should I use?
It depends on your existing environment. Microsoft Azure pairs best with Office 365 and Windows-heavy organizations. Google Cloud suits Workspace users. AWS is ideal for web applications and development. We assess your actual workload and recommend what genuinely fits — not what earns the most commission.
Can you migrate us from on-premise to the cloud?
Yes. We plan and execute cloud migrations with zero-downtime strategies. This includes email migration to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, file server migration to SharePoint or Google Drive, and application migration to cloud-hosted platforms.
Do you support QuickBooks and other accounting software?
Yes — QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Sage, Xero, and most other accounting platforms. We handle installation, multi-user networking, cloud migration, data recovery from corrupted files, and ongoing technical support.
